The clock dates to 1820 and was manufacturer by John Corby, Castle Ashby.
There are two winding barrels with separate weights. The winder is below the mechanism. Winding the clock is a strenuous task. The right hand pin is for the clock and the left hand (with safety catch) is for the bell strike. DO NOT WIND past the safe point which is when the weights appear at the side of the clock. Adjusting the clock is using the clock face and the time handle. DO NOT WIND this the wrong way - it must be adjusted anti-clockwise and it may be necessary to go though all hours to reset. The clock runs a little fast and so can be stopped for a minute to adjust time. The clock is stopped by holding the pendulum and then started by gently swinging the pendulum. The floor void below the tower is about six feet deep and the weights will come to rest if the clock is not wound after six days. The bell strike can be manually operated by lifting the striker bar above the bell strike cogs. DO NOT OIL the clock - this is a skilled job for the clock service company. Contact ....
IF in doubt please ask the Churchwarden.
